Who We Are

slÉ™pÌ“ilÉ™bÉ™xÊ· (Rising Tides) – Indigenous Planning Group is a collective of Native architects, planners, and community members that promote Indigenous approaches to urban planning, community development, and cultural placemaking. slÉ™pÌ“ilÉ™bÉ™xÊ· cultivates a city that is culturally, socially, and economically inclusive of our Tribal and urban Native people by engaging in city and regional planning efforts.
Through partnerships with City departments and Native-led organizations, sləp̓iləbəxʷ recently released the Native Neighborhood Community Study. This community-directed research study encourages Indigenous communities to radically dream of urban Native places that are healing, safe, multi-functional, multi-generational, and holistically care for current and future generations.

In 2018, members of sləp̓iləbəxʷ partnered with the Office of Planning and Community Development to host the series on Indigenous planning in Seattle. These discussions and presentations prompted the need for more conversations and inclusion of the Native people in city planning, and eventually lead to the formation of sləp̓iləbəxʷ and the Indigenous Seattle internships program (OPCD). Check out these recordings to learn more about Indigenous planning.
